There's something special about TF2.

TF2 is such a charming game.

This is the only game that I have been playing for longer than 2 years (over 1600hrs!).

Why do you think the game is so special?

cuz it haz heavy weapons guy, i dunno its the only game i have played for over 2 years as well and have not gotten sick of it. I stopped playing BF2 and this was like the only game that did not suck so i stuck with it and found u guys here at Ex and former CnB people. So i dunno i like it more because of the community more than the game itself

All of the above. Plus it's got the cartoony fun factor with it not being realistic, also not being a super huge game. Great sized maps that make for fast action and competitive play considering the class variety.

the best part, and also that 'special feeling", about tf2 is how everything fits the rest. there are 9 classes, each being absolutely unique, still greatly balanced and with their own characteristics, personalities, and so on. you really FEEL like a spy when you backstab a heavy and then hear yourself say some fancy line that discriminates fat people, with a voice that demonstrates your own superiority and great intellect. all the components complement each other and form a perfect universe that makes sense for itself. the different classes with different attempts on how to play them can address a wide variety of players with different mindsets and different expectations when playing a first person shooter.

this is what makes tf2 so special. that the "whole picture" of the game makes sense in every little detail.

I voted 9 unique classes. It's the balance between those classes that makes the game what it is.

The original game before the updates was the best for balance IMO. Since the updates and changes things aren't quite the same, but good. Neither the game nor the maps were made for 32 players, but the sociability of 32 player servers is (usually) great.

I think what I like best is sort of summed up in some of the above posts, but the way I've always described it is that TF2 doesn't take itself seriously, and I have enough seriousness in my life without gaming making it worse. I think it's the same thing that rakes players into World of Warcraft at first.

The cartoony look, the comical voice taunts, the silliness of some of the weapons, the hats, it all just adds up to a "fun time" and when you add that to a game that really is well balanced, it makes for a real success.

Its all about the class differentiation. Allowing people to learn each role and try and get better at each one. If you're playing poorly at one class, you can switch to another and instantly do better.
Different moods go for different classes.

You can have the same group of friends in any game, so that one is meh.

The constant updates kinda get old. I was happy with vanilla and still would be. Most of the weapons are kinda crap for competitive play because they are kinda OP. but for weapons like kritzkrieg it is just a different variety that throws fun into the mix since crits are awful.

You should have had an "all of the above" option :P. I picked other, but most online games generally become the same at a certain point while TF2 has remained quite unique when compared to any other game. I don't know what it is about this game... but i LOVE IT!

For me... it feel like an old school fps rather then one of these new fangled realistic shooters what with the camo and the vehicles and the jello whatnots.

played a whack of games and although this one isnt my favorite, its got alot of characteristics i do enjoy :p

I like how the classes have fun personalities. The heavy's voice always makes me laugh, especially when he says something like, "OOH DIS IS BAD!" The personable characters and the fact that Valve puts a lot of effort into TF2 makes it the best game ever! :)

It's special cause it isn't like every other run-of-the-mill shooter out there. Mostly cause of the classes. Even though games like Battlefield have classes as well, in that series its more like you are just choosing what weapons you use, while in TF2 when you choose a class you are choosing a character with not only different weapons but different speed, different abilities, and the strategy alters vastly between classes.

In most other games it is just about finding out what is the best overall weapon combo to get/use, and you use that. While in TF2 its like people that sort of follow that strategy in most other FPS games would fail...and fail quite hard... in TF2 cause they would probably be like "oh, the spy and the sniper are the best classes cause they can kill in 1 shot! I'll be unstoppable!" and then they learn that there are actual and effective counter classes in the game.

What makes TF2 special is the fact that they put so much effort into making the game fun and keeping it that way with updates (which breaks stuff half the time until they fix it), hats, class updates (Where's mah damn Engy Update?!). Then add a great community/clan to the mix and you have a great way to unwind after as stressful day at work. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.
