On side note, don't you think it be a tad bit more safer to just wait a few till things are clearly stable?

Windows 7 is already very stable. I'm still running the RC...too lazy to re-install :(

windows 7 is a flawless OS. no service packs needed. the RC itself was already super stable. this retail version is basically the RC with new support from lots of 3rd party sources (steam just updated with new win7 services......SWEEET)

I wouldnt say flawless, but it is pretty good. Haven't had any major problems.

Been running the RC since last April. Raid 0 has never failed and no problems as of yet for anything.

Definately don't need to wait for a SP1 like vista because it uses alot from vista with a more streamlined interface so not buggy at all really:)

Also, 10 second changing backgrounds are awsome!

Been running the RTM (Ultimate 64bit) since September alot better than Vista and seems on par with XP for gaming.

I've heard people have had nothing but problems with that version, I'd stick to the real thing.

I think the problem might have been due to people burning the ISO incorrectly.

Yep, I got the student deal on DR and it was a pain in the ass to make an ISO from the bullshit you download but once you get that its smooth sailing.

i dunno dude, the download i got was an EXE file not an ISO, this was an upgrade not an ISO. Plus if u ever have a problem burning ISO's its because ur burning them 2 fast, slow that shit down.

i have lost no PS2 games when i burn them because i burn at a turtle speed of 1x. Turn off the music, internet, and all other applications before u burn as well. But again the one i got from digital river was an EXE file not an ISO

I got the 30$ Windows 7 yesterday and upgraded my vista (had to finally install the service pack in order to get it. I avoided it for so long) and so far...I love windows 7, things run smoother and can multi-task much better than better. Thank you for this thread

Ok guys so I cannot find the vista disk for my Computer and I am looking at OEM any reason to stay away from it that any of you can come up with. I get that I will have to format it before I install it but I really don't see that as an issue... any other issues that I may not be aware of thx in adv

I got a RTM copy of Business/Pro 64 from MSDNAA about a month before release, one of the benefits of being CS student. Overall, I can't really distinguish this from Vista SP2 in terms of responsiveness. The Libraries are nice, but I can't really pinpoint a feature in Win7 that would be supported or beneficial to my systems aside from some better networking speeds (disk speed seems about the same).

I got that version too. You extract the .exe and it contains all the files in the structure that the DVD would contain. You make a bootable ISO image from that and teh, it works.

Have any Candian students tried getting this at a discount yet? So far I've only found a deal for 39.99 on Windows 7 Professional that I'm eligible for but I was wondering if there are any cheaper deals on Windows 7 Home Premium.

dude, you arent going to want home premium. on the site nvn posted it has pro for the same price as basic? o.0

windows 7 home premium doesnt even have the xp mode thing

No I don't see a point in getting home premium when I can get pro for the same price. I've just heard of some students getting home premium for free but I guess that's just computer science majors or something

Pro is the way to go with win7. the only reason to get ultimate is if you REALLY want the bitlocker abilty to encrypt your hard drives....and winXPmode works on all versions except for the Starter and Home versions. (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx)
winXP mode is okay if you have software that ONLY runs in an XP environment (like you know, really old software that doesn't get updates anymore because the devs have moved on to programming software that actually utilizes current technology....)

every version of win7 (except the starter edition I think) has aero and all the nice visual candy built in. the only difference between pro and ultimate is the BitLocker abilities and you get more language possibilities (http://i.zdnet.com/blogs/win7_pro_ultimate_features_rev2.jpg)

no reason to go with ultimate unless your paranoid about keeping all your data encrypted.

yeah but if u wanna run XP as well u could just dual boot

why dual boot when you can run both OSs at the same time? (unless you don't have a decent amount of RAM and CPU power)
