View Full Version : Thoughts on internal scrims

I, personally, enjoy internal scrims more, though only a little, than external. It's more organized and has a sort of excitement in it that makes TF2 at its best. Not only that, it's also a great learning experience for whoever participates, new or experienced, I'm sure. I'm hoping we have more of these internal scrims to help us, as gamers, gain more skill.

Now, I know that for matches, we have people tell us their preferred classes and what not, but for these internal scrims, I thought it'd be a great chance for us to broaden our skills rather than only sharpen. What I mean is that, we shouldn't only work on our preferred and best classes, but also on other skills, just in case. Sure, this isn't for everybody, but that doesn't mean it's for nobody.

I'm sure you've noticed in more than one situation, we've had troubles with people picking classes and making sure we all could work together. This is due to the lack of people available, not their fault, and the need to scrounge about for people to play in a scrim/match. And of those people, their skills overlap too much and cause a little sort of disturbance in the sense of teamwork and skill. I've talked with a few people and have heard opinions, but haven't heard them all, so please, don't hesitate to speak your mind. I'm sure we all, if not most of us, know that we have some very good soldiers in our group. But, soldiers aren't enough to make a team. Especially in the 9v9. I've heard we don't exactly have many extroadinary scouts. I can think of 2 or 3, but how can we expect, of those three, that at least 2 can make it to every scrim?

So, if possible, we could arrange some special scrims where people play as classes they're not exactly attuned to, but want to get better at or something. This way we can expand our range and worry less about classes being played and more about who can make it and such.

Also, I realize that the pub is a good place to start, but it doesn't build the same skills and such needed in matches. So, I'm hoping we could start something new like this and hopefully, it'll help us play much better in scrims, allowing more of us to be able to switch off to other classes when we're not doing so well in ones we're assigned to.

To start it off, I'm comfortable playing spy, sniper, scout, soldier, and engineer. Now, I'm nowhere near the skill of many in our clan with soldier, I'm still learning that, but I hope to learn how to play demo, scout, and possibly medic. But, my main 3 are solly, demo, and scout. I'm decent in pubs, but nowhere where I need to be for certain matches.

Not sure what else needs to be said, I'm half awake as I type this, but only because I worry I'll forget it later. Hopefully, it makes sense. :)

This was put together very nice for being half asleep =P
Uhm, yes we could use a few more players who can play a class on short notice when its needed, and yes we do lack in a few certain classes, i.e Scout.
next internal scrim, if someone wants to play scout, ill give them the few tips ive picked up from playing Scout in matches, and we can see how well we can scout together!

On a side note,

bot bot bot, wants to try soli, but many are better =P justttt one internal scrim for a round!? PLEASE!? =)

Haha, poor bot, always stuck with sniper, scout, or spy. He really does need chances to play as solly.

shouldnt the next internal match have totally different people so everybody can have the satisfaction of being in one?

I should of read what kaito said above before saying this but still there are enough people i think to switch it up totally

I would love to play a match but the time zone is really killing me :(

I'm decent at most classes (except scout) but I prefer to be medic. I love healing other people and having more of a support role. Spy fits me as well, and probably soldier, heavy, engi too if needed.

But I sleep when it's evening in US eastern time. from about 5 pm to 12 midnight(I could vary a little if needed).

I'd love to get good at scout, all I need to work on is the aim/waiting for the kill shot. good at calling shit out and flanking ;3a

Yea I think these internal scrims are a great idea. It let's players get used to a more competitive setting with less spam, longer respawn times etc.

I was just wondering if it's exclusively for Ex members though. I'm not suggesting we turn it into a pub or anything but Mr. Pirate said he might want to play sometime (he's a good medic for those for you who don't know) and I'm sure some other good players would be down for it too.

Yeah hes a good medic and cool to play with, we could mix it up one nite, put a team together and have our regs go against us,

well u know we have been switching ppl up, that is why we have been doing internal. but you know what, even with advance notice we still have to find ppl or they can only play for a bit.

Several questions, is a mic a must?

And what time would it be?

I'm very much up for internal scrims. Would help me figure out if I'm any good at organized play with smaller team sizes.

I would say that a mic is pretty much necessary for all scrims. I mean it is not a law but it really hurts the team if people can't communicate easily.

The internal scrim last night was a success I thought. If that's any representation of what a real scrim/match is like, then it's actually alot more fun then a regular pub match :D Some coordination, teamwork, similar goals is what I've been looking to get out of a pub game, but never seem to achieve haha :D
Looking forward to the next one.

You got it. Pubs will always be pubs...with a certain level of randomness, chaotic...
Scrims and matches are very similar to what our scrim was like. It's almost like a different game to me when there is some organization involved.
