I've heard some very mixed reviews about it. It's currently in beta so you can go to BioWare' sight and sign up for it.

I think, like many people, that this game will be the end of bioware. It might not happen right away, but they've sunk more money into this thing than a blockbuster movie. The only way it will turn a profit is if it KILLS world of warcraft and drags all their subscribers over. And it would still take like 10 years before the start making money from what I've heard.

Expect it to be free within 2 years, if not completely destroyed.

From an actual game aspect, the game seems cool, wouldn't pay monthly for it though. I love Kotor 1 and 2, but lets be honest, they are the most bug ridden games of all time, and they are also incredibly easy on the hardest setting, due to oversights that usually end up with you having unlimited mana if you know what you are doing.

Sadly this game will suffer the fate of episode 1 (of the movies), it will probably be good, but do very badly, the games core audience is rpg fans who enjoy singleplayer.... not many of them will shell out the money for it.

Bioware doesn't get to go anywhere before they give me my Mass Effect 3

I can't wait until the SUPER AWESOME PLANET SCANNING MECHANIC WHICH REPLACED THE SUPPOSEDLY BORING MAKO MECHANIC IS REPLACED WITH AN EVEN BETTER (YEAH RIGHT) MORE BORING MECHNIC

fuck thermal clips too :p

I can't wait for 3 but I'm scared if you can't tell

I agree with the planet scanning, but the thermal clips were necessary. Otherwise we'd just be sniper raping everything that moved without having to worry about ammo

Bioware didn't sink the money in, EA did. Kotor having bugs has no relevance to this game either. I've never played Mass effect but it doesn't seem to be remembered as being the buggiest game ever. The endgame is what MMO's are all about, What will TOR do to keep people in. I've got no clue, But i love MMO's.

Bioware is at a very good time to release an new MMO. They can Learn much from other MMO's.

If bioware is hemoraging money, they will be blamed and Ea will just cut them out like a tumor. Yes it's their fault for funding it, but it won't matter in the end. I'm too lazy to find the article, but there was a disgruntled emplyee of bioware who got fired, and made some compeling arguements about the company, it could be because he was fired, but theres probably alot of truth to what he said.

the cinematic trailer at E3 was ridiculously awesome. Too bad any MMO to date just gets reduced down to the same terribly boring grinding and sit-and-wait gameplay. If this one can be different though, I think I would buy it.

First Day of Testing:

I picked a Bounty Hunter as my First Character. Story mode Activated! As you go through the story, Each quest you pick as it's own story, You choose the words to say. Depending on what you say to these people give you alignment points (Light/dark). I have not seen what the alignment is for other than it's a requirement for certain gear.

I experienced 2 loading screen the entire game play, I played for about 6 hours and got to level 10. These loading screens were when i needed to take a shuttle to a different planet. It's actually awesome how they incorporated Bioware RPG into an MMO. I've barely touched the surface, But it's pretty damn entertaining so far.

A game about light sabres and shooting electricity out of your hands, and you chose the character with a gun and jetpack? Did they at least make the guns better than KOTOR where you would just sit there and miss 20 shots in a row?

what is the combat like? Is it interesting at all or do you just press one button and watch? How long does it take to get from place to place? Is there anything that resembles grinding at all in the game?

Haha True. But the True Essence of Star Wars is the Variety of Proffesions there are. If i want to hunt people down, I'm going to pick a Bounty hunter. Everbody has their own Story, Their own way to their universe. The guns are much better. (Kotor was terrible gun play) Bounty Hunters run off a mechanic called Heat, As you Use your abilities your suit generates heat. It slowly vents out and you have an ability that will vent your heat if your in trouble.

I've only expierenced PVE character combat so far. Bieng a bounty hunter you have some skills that can only be used if your enemy is incapacitated. I've been told Smugglers/Imperial Agents have abilities that can only be used if they are behind cover. You also get Campanions (Party Members in KOTOR), So far i've only got 1. But i think it goes up to 3. So Combat in the PVE world has a different feel to it from other MMO's.

I Spent the majority of the day on Hutta. Fairly Small Planet but you would pay for speeders to transport you to different parts of the planet. You can get mounts at Level 25. I stopped playing at Doruund kaas, The planet was much bigger than Hutta.

I can see some certain grinding aspects, For one. Alignment is needed for certain gear, There are quests in which you can grind to earn alignment points. Crafting is a whole different Subject, You select the Craft Skills for your companions. My campanions does Scavenging and Some Blastertech thing. I can Send my Companions to do Quests inorder to Level and Gather Supplies which can be used to level up your crafting. Each Quest you send them on is about 5 mins. I've heard you can send all your companions on crafting quests at once.

I Look forward to PVP combat Today and aswell as Space combat (If i get a ship)

Update for anyone that wants it?:(.. I'm playing this game. I'm a level 27 Imperial Agent. Space combat is ridiculously fun, pvp is well done the only flaw is the same in any other multiplayer game in that people that FUCKING SUCK at pvp still try to pvp so you can get some shit teams sometime (If you make a group before, you can join as a team). Story line is fucking sweet (aslong as you like starwars). So far it doesn't feel like any grind yet, but again only 27/50

As a long time WoW player, I immediately felt the "It's WoW but in the Star Wars universe" however I felt they did a great job cloning the great parts of WoW's interface, and the voice acting and whatnot was a really nice touch.

That being said, having only played in a beta weekend and getting to level 10 or so, I already was feeling the monotony. Grinding in a field is one thing, sure, and really really sucks. But so does playing courier just to bide their time in telling the story.

For folks who are playing it, I hope you enjoy it. A lot. As a person who's only lukewarm on the Star Wars franchise to begin with, an MMO just isn't for me, I don't think.

Surprisingly KOTOR 1 and 2 are what brought me into the whole Star Wars thing, before then I never really gave the movies a chance. To me this game topples both of them, I'd probably play it if it was singleplayer only, so having it multiplayer is like icing on a cake.

These games are always fun but they never really catch me and I lose interest quickly (see guild wars), but I don't know, the classes and story etc made me buy a pay to play game for the first time in my life :3.
