You can get a nice i5 processor for pretty reasonable anymore. The one thing I don't know much about is motherboards, and you really need to find the mobo you want before you can start picking other things.

So yeah I guess my reply is pretty worthless. x_X

Get a budget for a new one and then I'm sure the community would love to cram as much power as possible into that budget.

He doesnt have a crap computer, he has great specs from what I hear, just needs a better vid card. Wouldnt mind seeing all the specs on this to troubleshoot it.
