This is what I use for my mouse pad. It never pills like some mouse pads, and it's very easy to clean if you spill something on it. It is definitely big, and durable too.

I don't think mousepads are relevent now that we no longer use trackballs. I use my 2000dpi laser mouse right on my desk. Smooth as can be.

I used to think that too Jasin until i got myself a nice mousepad. Far more comfortable on the arm and slides better.
I currently use a Roccat Taito because I didn't want a super thin one(3mm thick) but you can get thinner or thicker ones depending on preference.

try using it on a desk that has a glass surface ;)
glass will render your mouse useless since the light from the mouse just penetrates right through the glass, thus leaving your mouse all confused as to why it couldn't detect any movement. kind of like just holding your mouse in the air and trying to move your cursor ;) ahahha
