go watch a video on youtube and in that area where you can select different video qualities (480p, 720p, etc) there is a new option for "TEXTp" which converts that video into streaming, colored ASCII text!

it's for today only (that's what I read).
so go watch your favorite vids again (some videos don't have this option)

I'm mildly amused by this.

It's kind of ironic that text is the hardest thing to read/identify in the videos though.

it's pretty weird looking, and goes by so fast you can't really read it w/o pauaing every few seconds.

but very interesting.

By using text-only mode, you are saving YouTube $1 a second in bandwidth costs. YouTube- RTC1 to go back to regular YouTube and happy April Fools Day! (http://youtube-global.blogspot.com/)

that's what's it's for. saving youtube money :D
looks pretty awesome. hope they keep it around forever. i wonder what an ASCII video using the TEXTp mode would look like ? ;) haha

I think you can do this in VLC (for days besides today), it's pretty neat. :)
